competition teams 2027 Season

Our Competition Teams provide dedicated dancers with the opportunity to represent Team Plié at eisteddfods, competitions, major productions and community performances throughout the year.
As a member of one of our Competition Teams, students are expected to demonstrate commitment, teamwork, respect and a positive attitude both in and out of the studio.
Competition Team places are by invitation only.

Competition Team Expectations

Commitment. Competition Team members are expected to:

• Attend all Competition Team rehearsals.

• Maintain excellent attendance in all required classes.

• Attend the annual Competition Team Camp.

• Be available for competitions, concerts and performances throughout the season.

• Prioritise Team Plié competition commitments over other dance commitments.

• Students are committing from July 2026- August 2027

Class Requirements. Competition Team members are required to:

• Attend their Competition Team rehearsal each week.

• Attend the corresponding recreational class in the same style.

• Meet all ballet requirements where applicable.

Ballet Requirements

Classical ballet provides the technical foundation for many dance styles and plays an essential role in developing strength, technique, alignment and artistry. The following ballet requirements apply to Competition Team members:

• 6/u Competition Teams: 1 ballet class per week (for Jazz).

• 8/u and above – Jazz Competition Teams: 2 ballet classes per week

• Lyrical & Contemporary Competition Teams (10/u and above): 2 ballet classes per week.

• 18/u Competition Teams: A minimum of 1 ballet class per week is required for Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary dancers (2 classes per week is strongly encouraged).

These requirements help ensure students continue to develop the technical foundations needed to perform confidently and successfully in their Competition Teams.

Home Campus

• Every Competition Team dancer has a designated Home Campus.

• Competition Team dancers are expected to remain committed to representing their Home Campus throughout their competition years.

• This philosophy helps build strong campus communities while creating clear development pathways for our dancers.

Cross-Campus Opportunities

Students are welcome to attend recreational classes across any Team Plié campus. Competition Team participation is different.

• Competition Team dancers under 18 years of age compete exclusively for their Home Campus.

• Open Age dancers may only be invited to participate in another campus where that dance style is not offered at their Home Campus.

• Cross-campus Competition Team opportunities are by invitation from the Principal only and are not available by request.

Open Age Competition Teams

• To be eligible for selection into an Open Age Competition Team, dancers must be entering, at a minimum, Year 11 in the upcoming school year.

• Placement into an Open Age Competition Team remains at the discretion of the Principal.

External Dance Training

• Competition Team members may not be enrolled at another dance studio while representing Team Plié.

• School dance remains an exception, provided it does not interfere with Team Plié commitments.

• Attendance at external workshops should be discussed with the Principal prior to registration.

Competition Costs. Families should budget for:

• Competition Team tuition fees

• Annual Competition Team levy

• Competition costumes

• Competition Team Camp

• Competition jacket

• Shoes and accessories

• Competition entry requirements (hair, makeup, stockings etc.)

Full fee information is provided upon acceptance into the Competition Program.

Sportsmanship

• At Team Plié, we pride ourselves on creating not only exceptional dancers, but exceptional people.

• Competition Team members and their families are expected to demonstrate respect, integrity and good sportsmanship at all competitions, performances and events, supporting both Team Plié and fellow competitors.

Selection

• Selection into a Competition Team is by invitation only.

• Team placements are reviewed annually and are based on a range of factors including technical ability, commitment, attendance, teamwork, maturity and the needs of each Competition Team.

• The Principal reserves the right to determine all Competition Team placements.
